What to Pack in a Disaster Grab Bag: Baby Edition

Disasters can happen anytime. Typhoons, power outages, earthquakes, or sudden evacuation. As parents, our priority is to keep our little ones safe, fed, and comfortable.

A grab bag is your ready-to-go emergency kit. It’s something that you can quickly take with you if you need to leave home in a hurry. For parents, it’s not just about survival essentials, it’s about meeting your baby’s unique needs in any situation.

Here’s what you need to include in your baby’s grab bag:

1. Feeding Essentials

  • Formula milk (ready-to-drink or pre-measured powder)

  • Bottled or sterile water

  • Feeding bottles and nipples (stored in resealable bags)

  • Manual breast pump (for breastfeeding moms)

  • Baby food jars or pouches (for older infants)

  • Small feeding container and spoon

Tip: Choose shelf-stable items that don’t require refrigeration.

2. Clothing and Warmth

  • 2–3 sets of clothes (light and easy to layer)

  • Socks, bonnet, and mittens

  • Swaddle or receiving blanket

  • Lightweight jacket or poncho

  • Burp cloths

Tip: Store clothing in waterproof bags to keep them clean and dry.

3. Diapering and Hygiene

  • 10–15 diapers

  • Baby wipes and disposable changing pads

  • Diaper rash cream

  • Disposable bags for waste

  • Cradle Natural Bottle & Nipple Cleanser – safe for cleaning bottles and toys even with limited water

  • Alcohol or hand sanitizer

Tip: Choose baby-safe, hypoallergenic cleansers to prevent irritation.

4. Medicine and First Aid

  • Infant paracetamol or ibuprofen (with dosage chart)

  • Digital thermometer

  • Saline drops and nasal aspirator

  • Sterile gauze, adhesive bandages, and cotton

  • Prescribed medications with doctor’s note

Tip: Check and update medicines every 3–6 months.

5. Comfort and Protection

  • Favorite toy or teether

  • Pacifier

  • Soft blanket or small stuffed animal

  • Board book or rattle

  • Bite Block Bug Spray or Citronella Patches – to protect your baby from mosquito bites during evacuations or outdoor stay

Tip: Familiar items help calm your baby, while mosquito protection ensures comfort and safety.

6. Safety and Practical Extras

  • Flashlight or headlamp with extra batteries

  • Power bank (fully charged)

  • Face masks

  • Whistle

  • Emergency contact list

  • Waterproof pouch for IDs and important documents

7. Parent Reminder

  • Pack everything in a sturdy, waterproof bag that’s easy to carry.

  • Keep the grab bag near your main exit or your baby’s sleeping area.

  • Review and update every three months. Replace outgrown clothes, expired formula, and used supplies.

Final Note

A baby’s needs don’t stop in times of crisis, but your preparation can make all the difference. A well-packed grab bag ensures you’re always ready to protect, feed, and comfort your child, no matter the situation.

Preparedness is more than just being ready. It’s about being ready with care. Because when it comes to your little one, safety and comfort should never be compromised.
